TOUCH THE SEA®

Bonaire Naked Camera Event

Announcing:
Bonaire's (possibly The World's)
First Annual Natural Light Underwater Photography Experience

AKA

The Bonaire Naked Camera Underwater Photography Experience

WHY?  As increasing numbers of divers take up underwater photography, their marine animal subjects are subjected to increasing amounts of high-intensity (flash) light.  Except for marine mammals and sharks, marine creatures have no defenses against sudden bright light.  Fish have no eyelids and their eyes don't react to light quickly enough to protect them from multiple flashes.  Fortunately, we don't need artificial light to make enjoyable, stress-free photos.

WHO?  Anyone with an underwater camera and the courage to take photos with natural light alone.

WHERE?  The waters of the Bonaire National Marine Park.

WHEN?  images must be submitted by 20 May and will be exhibited at Captain Don's Habitat on 21 May 2020, the anniversary of Captain Don Stewart's arrival on Bonaire.

Details:  ranking of photos may or may not take place - that's not the focus of this event.  Some prizes will be awarded for participation, rather than rankings, and will have a maximum retail value of $25.00.  Enjoy less stressful dives by taking photos with no artificial light!

MISSION STATEMENT for Bonaire's First Annual Natural Light Underwater Photography Experience, affectionately called, with thanks to Captain Don Stewart, the Naked Camera Event:

The goals of this event are to educate divers about the effects of flash photography on marine creatures, involve divers in taking underwater photos that are not stressful to them or their subjects, and to have fun while doing it all.
